How to Write Oil Painting Image Prompts - Nano Banana 2

Application is the biggest variable. Thin glazes built up in transparent layers give a smooth luminous surface where the light seems to come from inside the paint. Thick impasto laid on with a palette knife gives ridges that catch actual light and cast tiny shadows. Both are oil painting; they look like different art forms.

Name one. “Thick impasto brushwork, visible ridges of paint” and “smooth glazed layers, soft blended transitions” send the image in opposite directions from the same subject. Add whether the strokes are visible and directional, or blended away until the surface is invisible.

That is far more information than “masterpiece oil painting, highly detailed” transmits, and it is repeatable. Naming a period or movement gets you the territory without borrowing an individual painter’s signature.

Colour behaviour follows from the tradition, but you can push it directly as well. Earth-toned limited palette. Cool grey underpainting showing through. Warm varnish yellowing with age. These are things that happen to oil paintings and to nothing else.
